As most of us are aware the DOT has been pressing to turn Middle Country Road into a 5 lane high speed highway. Therefore, the regions long range plan developed by the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council NYMTC has reflected DOTs vision.
Unfortunately it has not reflected the vision of the community. The current plan calls for the widening of Middle Country Road from CR 83 to Coram Mt. Sinai Rd to five lanes, within the short term. Long term plans call for the widening of Middle Country Road from Coram Mt. Sinai Rd. to CR 21. Five lanes. On February 25th NYMTC held several public meetings. Many members of the MCRR Project attended and contributed valuable input. If you were unable to attend these meetings your voice can still be heard by submitting comments to NYMTC. Please see Longwood Alliance comments and take a couple of minutes to submit your own.Allinace Comments

More info on NYMTC
As the region's Metropolitan Planning Organization, (NYMTC) has a mandated responsibility to determine how federal transportation funds will be spent.
NYMTC members work in collaboration with related agencies and the public to write and periodically revise a long-range transportation plan for the region.
A draft of the next update is required by April 1, 2005 to maintain eligibility for federal funding.
NYMTC is required to obtain public input, therefore, it is hosting a number of public review meetings throughout the region to seek comments.
Projects, proposals and studies for each county will be reviewed.
Maps of the proposed projects will be on display.
Public comment will be encouraged.
