Help Save the Middle Island Greenbelt!

The Middle Island Civic Association has been working to preserve a north south greenbelt since approximately 1987. Since that time we have continued to work to preserve the remainder of our identified greenbelt. The parcels in question were included in the Longwood Mini Master Plan, which was incorporated into the Town's 1996 Land Use Plan. The MICA has met with elected officials and submitted 27 pages of petitions to preserve an important link in its greenbelt system.

We have asked the Town to rigorously pursue acquisition of all parcels in our identified greenbelt. We have stressed the importance of keeping our greenbelt whole and the problems which result when greenbelts are narrowed through clustering.

The Middle Island Civic Association is requesting an enhanced level of communication for all applications within the greenbelt corridor, and to be kept apprised of the status of the Town¹s efforts to preserve and acquire the remainder of the greenbelt. It would be a great disappointment to area residents to watch this wonderful community resource erode away due to inaction.

Help preserve Middle Island's Greenbelt! Join our postcard campaign to Supervisor John LaValle, and Councilman Jim Tullo. Call: Connie Kepert- 924-1427 to pick up postcards. See article on Middle Island's Greenbelt.
