Take Action!
The NYSDOT has scheduled a planned widening of Middle Country Road at the intersection of Rt. 25 and Coram Mt. Sinai Roads in Coram. The DOT plans on widening the right turn lane east of the light just in front of the Davis House. The Department also plans on creating an additional lane west of the light at Coram Mt. Sinai Road. As of this writing we do not know if the trees in the front of the Davis House will be effected. No notice or input was sort from the community at large or from the MCRRP. This is yet another instance of the DOT moving forward with its plans with no input from the community. The DOT's L.I. region continues to make a mockery of the the Governor's effort to press for Quality Communities, and the idea of context sensitive solutions. The DOT has once again ignored the spirit of the law and may have flaunted the letter of the law.
Help us send a message to the DOT and our elected officials. Sign on to our petition which we will send to Commissioner Boardman.
Petition:
We the undersigned strongly object to the DOT's latest effort to push through their road widening plan for Middle Country Road in Coram and Middle Island. The DOT is well aware that the community and the Town is working to create two pedestrian villages and one subcenter in the area. Rather than react to this planned change in future development, the Long Island Region of the DOT continues to igonre community wishes, and changes in land use policy. We ask that you step in and insist that the L.I. Region, take the Governor's lead and work with the community rather than exclude and ignore it.
Just copy into an email and sign. Thanks!
